Preserving Democracy
What the Founding Fathers knew, What we have forgotten, and How it theatens Democracy
The other day I had a conversation with Elgin. At the time we were discussing Liberty verses Equality (a distinction in terms that perhaps would have escaped my attention if not for Elgin.) We were joking that there were no historic Equality Trees, or Equality Halls, etc. I said there was no Equality Pole such as the Liberty Poles raised throughout the Colonies during the America Revolution and specifically the now gone Liberty Pole in Tenafly, NJ that Washington passed while escaping the British coming out of Fort Lee. Elgin quickly corrected me and said that there was an Equality Pole, "It's often called the shaft."

Such is the wit, depth, and good humor of Elgin. He always seems to ferret out the absurdities in the thinking of the truly unthinking and can find the humor while not diminishing its destructive nature. He has a unique combination of disciplines that serves him well in authoring "Preserving Democracy". He has degrees in engineering, theology, and business. He has worked as an engineer in various Sothern California business such as JPL and other heady research firms. He is an educator. He is an author of several books. He a lecturer. He is an independent businessman in software and systems development. He is a husband and a father. He enjoys a good Cab or a dram of Scotch. He is a good and loyal friend. He is a faithful brother in Christ.

Elgin has a deep and abiding love for his country. He fears for it. No matter where you may be in relation to his religious and political perspectives, you will find him engaging and respectful of your opinion - and of course he will logically unwind your logic and provide you with facts from his almost encyclopedic cranium.

Elgin is truly a talented and resourceful man. "Preserving Democracy" epitomizes much of who he is and the clarity of thinking he possesses. Read the book just to come to know a remarkable individual.
